The truth about the modern teenager.
The modern teenager is often stereotyped as unresponsive, inconsiderate, and always distracted by technology, and unwilling to speak properly and dress sensibly. Holds no regard for social norms and a lack of respect for anyone they know or meet. Yet the truth about teenagers will probably shock you.
The truth is the teenagers you see walking round with their trousers down by their knees and wearing numerous jackets, they are in the minority of teenagers. Yet they seem like the majority because they stand out in a crowd, or cause disruption in public. In reality the modern teenager is no different to your generation of teenagers looking respectful and wearing a lanyard at school. We are normal we worry about the future and we try to live life to the fullest all while juggling school work and work in some cases.
Most teenagers are engaged with the news and follow current events, while it may not be taught in schools, you can bet you bottom dollar that most teenagers read some form of news on a daily basis. However not every teenager is well informed some do have a lack of interest in the news, or current events as they see it as unimportant to their lives and don’t wish be bogged down, worrying about issues they have little to no control over. Yet teenagers often to choose to act ignorant or unaware when asked about news or current events. This is a direct result of the idea that teenagers do not understand what they are talking about. Yet sometimes teenagers may know more about a current event or news story than the other person in the conversation.
The truth about teenagers is simple; we are all individuals trying to find our place in the world. While some of us may dress impractically and talk in slang, we are no different form anyone else. Our constant connection to the Internet and social media means we have the capability to be extremely well informed about current events as well as life lessons. While some teenagers may choose not to follow the news, there are a staggering number of teenagers who do follow current events. Moreover most teenagers do not subscribe to the idea that they are owed something by society; instead they understand that hard work is the only path to achieving your goals in life.
So the modern teenager is the same, as every generation of teenager before them, with an explicit aim towards living life to the fullest and experiencing all life has to offer before we are tied down by employment or other commitments. We still do they age old traditions of drinking too much or trying a cigarette, we still are defined by the minority of teenagers, same as generations before and after us. Yet our unrivaled access to the internet and ability to be constantly connected, defines this generation of teenagers as those who have the best chance to be whatever they want in life.
